Survey of dentists on infant oral health care in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Korea

Abstract

|
Objectives: We examined dentist awareness and experience on infant oral health care in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do, Korea.
Methods: We surveyed of 483 dentists (282 in Seoul, 175 in Gyeonggi-do, 36 in Gangwon-do)using 14 questions related to infant oral health care and the recommended age for the first dental visit.
Results: Fifty two percent of dentists had not performed the Infant Oral Health Screening Program. Only 18% of surveyed dentists felt that 12 months was appropriate for the first dental visit. Most respondents do not have correctly understand the Infant Oral Screening Program.
Conclusions: Dentist recognition of infant oral health care is insufficient. There is a need for increased infant oral health care education in dental communities.
